A vanguard of architects is not building skyscrapers or concert halls. They are not bothered by having their own signature style. Even aesthetic perfection leaves them cold. The self-conscious designer of modernism, with its unassailable belief in social engineering, is waning. One could say that the new architect is more of a hacker. Smart City or The serial reproduction of an urban vision.

Cristina is a Rotterdam-based researcher and writer with a background in Architecture and Urbanism and a founder of Amateur Cities. Currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Groningen on the topic of gaming and urban complexity, she previously worked as an embedded researcher for the Amsterdam Hackable Metropolis. Project, a collaboration of the University of Amsterdam, the Mobile City. Cristina has been a collaborator of Play the City! And the Architecture Film Festival of Rotterdam.

MAURO STACCIOLI, born in 1937, is a prominent figure in Italian contemporary sculpture. In the early 1970s he pioneered a new kind of sculpture, made of massive, large scale steel installations placed in the urban setting. Later he placed these sculptures in the natural environment. These interventions are characterised by essential forms, coherence and perfect cohesion to the environment in which they are set. As a fact, childhood memories play a substantial role.
